چکیده

The ultrastructure of cardiac muscle is described. In the course of the descriptions advantage has been taken of comparative anatomy, in order to elucidate the relationships between structure and function. Physiologic parameters are discussed in a comparative manner including information from skeletal muscles fibers that often provide a well-studied point of departure. The descriptions of the ultrastructure of cardiac muscle are illustrated by a few electron photomicrographs to give a general overview.

The Effect of Amiodarone on the Ultrastructure of Ganglionic Neurons of Rabbit Heart

Purpose: This research has been carried out to study the morphological and ultrastructural changes of rabbit heart ganglionic neurons and nerve fibers after treatment with Amiodarone. Materials and Methods: 21 rabbits were divided into control and two experimental groups. The first experimental group for one week and the second experimental group for two weeks were injected intraperitoneally 8...

Relation of ultrastructure to function in the intact heart: sarcomere structure relative to pressure volume curves of intact left ventricles of dog and cat.

• The sarcomere is the basic ultrastructural unit of contraction in striated muscle. Huxley and Hanson have shown that the alternating band patterns of the sarcomere in skeletal muscle derive from the longitudinal disposition of two sets of interdigitating contractile protein filaments. On the basis of these and other studies, the sliding filament hypothesis for muscle contraction was proposed....

Comparative Ultrastructure and Calcium Transport in Heart and Skeletal Muscle Microsomes

A number of previous investigations have provided measurements of calcium uptake in microsomal fractions from mammalian skeletal and heart muscle (1-7) . On a comparative basis, there are strong indications that the amount and rate of calcium uptake are substantially lower in the heart preparations. The relatively low values of calcium uptake rates in isolated cardiac "reticulum" have been disc...

Ultrastructure and transmembrane potentials of cardiac muscle in the human anterior mitral valve leaflet.

We studied the ultrastructure and electrophysiology of an anterior mitral valve leaflet obtained from the heart of a recipient of a cardiac transplant. The anterior leaflet of this human mitral valve contained atrial muscle in direct continuity with the left atrial myocardium. The muscle fibers were 3-6 , in diameter and contained atrial-specific granules. They were arranged in longitudinal ban...

Pathophysiological Defects and Transcriptional Profiling in the RBM20-/- Rat Model

Our recent study indicated that RNA binding motif 20 (Rbm20) alters splicing of titin and other genes. The current goals were to understand how the Rbm20(-/-) rat is related to physiological, structural, and molecular changes leading to heart failure. We quantitatively and qualitatively compared the expression of titin isoforms between Rbm20(-/-) and wild type rats by real time RT-PCR and SDS a...
